This book is brilliantly written and such fun to read aloud while employing the best darndest southern accent you can muster. It has a jaunty meter that stays consistent throughout and the illustrations to go along with the story are fabulous. Everyone, little ones to adults will enjoy this book. I was a teacher and this book would be fabulous to use even with older kids to illustrate how to use dialect and word choice for a particular genre. After buying this, I had to buy the sequel, "Cowpoke Clyde Rides the Range," and I wasn't disappointed. This book is on my "favorites" shelf and is a gift I give to people with young children. You can't go wrong with this adorable story.
