It was the event of the year! Newbery winner and New York Times bestselling author Kwame Alexander gathered his new Versify author/illustrators from around the world for one special evening at Mrs. Dalloway’s Bookstore in Berkeley, California. And what an evening! Streaming live on FaceBook, Kwame introduced us—YA author Mintie Das, Chloe Bristol, the illustrator of NONSENSE! THE CURIOUS STORY OF EDWARD GOREY, and me, the author of the self-same book—to the enthusiastic attendees. Then, sitting up front, we fielded Kwame’s fun questions about ourselves, our books, and our creative process. While Chloe dazzled the children in front with her illustrations, Kwame, Mintie, and I constructed a poem on the spot.
During my visit, I was also able to meet not one, but two of my illustrators. (Whaaat? This almost never happens!) The talented Chloe Bristol, of course, who illustrated our book, NONSENSE! THE CURIOUS STORY OF EDWARD GOREY, and Rob Sayegh, who is illustrating one of my upcoming picture books, ARLO DRAWS AN OCTOPUS. Afterwards, there was a flurry of cupcakes, conversations, and book signings. Then, in a flash, the evening was over---all too soon! Thank you Kwame, Versify, and Mrs. Dalloway’s bookstore. (Let's do it again!)
