Daring explorer Isabella Bird certainly gets around. Today, I was delighted to read my picture book biography, Away with Words, The Daring True Story of Isabella Bird, at MA's Belmont Books' special online Women's History Month story time event, Saturday, March 26, 2022. After I read the book, terrific Away with Words, illustrator, Kristy Caldwell, shared a fun notebook activity that encouraged attendees to make their own notebooks and fill them up with drawings and details about the sights around them. Super cool! I loved hearing about Kristy's notebook drawings. (My favorite was a cat in a window!) It was a pleasure to share the screen with Connie Schofield-Morrison (author) and Elizabeth Zunon (illustrator) of Stitch by Stitch: Elizabeth Hobbs Keckly Sews Her Way to Freedom, and Candace Fleming (author) of What Isabella Wanted: Isabella Stewart Gardner Builds a Museum and hear their incredible stories.
